Introductions

Expect:

“Tell me about yourself.”

Blend in your aviation experience, with non-aviation items that make you who you are .


Logbook Review

They’ll verify ATP mins and ask about experience.


Know:

TT, XC, PIC, Night, Instrument, Multi

90-day / 12-month totals

Monthly average

Checkride failures


Questions:

“Where do you stand toward ATP mins?”

“How many hours a month are you flying?”

“Tell me about any checkride failures.”


HR / CRM

Mostly “Tell me about a time…” questions. Use real flight examples.


Questions:

“Tell me about a time you had an issue in flight.”

“Describe a mistake you’ve made.”

“When were you scared in flight?”

“Tell me about a disagreement with a leader or student.”

“When did you go above and beyond?”

“Have you ever been terminated?”

“Any undisclosed incidents/accidents?”


Possible CRM scenario (not always done in virtual interviews)

“What would you do if a passenger had a medical emergency, or aircraft had a maintenance issue ?”


Technical

FARs

91.175, alternate mins, 1-2-3 rule, 3585, RVSM, holding speeds


Questions:

“Explain 91.175.”

“What’s the 1-2-3 rule?”

“What’s Exemption 3585?”

“Max holding speed below 6,000?”


Aerodynamics

Swept wing, Mach tuck, coffin corner, PAST/SMACFUM


Questions:

“What are the benefits of a swept wing?”

“What causes Mach tuck?”

“What determines the critical engine?”


Weather

METAR/TAF, thunderstorm stages, virga, microbursts


Questions:

“Decode this METAR.”

“How far should you stay from a thunderstorm?”

“What causes virga?”

“How long is a TAF valid?”


Systems

Electrical, turtbine bleed air, pressurization, TRUs, inverters


Questions:

“Describe your electrical system.”

“What’s a TRU?”

“How is the cabin pressurized?”

“What’s bleed air used for?”

“Walk me through the engine as an air molecule.”

“What happens during a hot start?”

“What’s a hung start?”


Jepp/Charts

ILS briefing, airport signs, lights


Questions:

“Brief this ILS.”

“What’s the FAP for precision?”

“What color are taxiway lights?”

“What does this sign mean?”
